Buckle up, sports fans— the 2022 NCAA football season is rapidly approaching.
That’s right, the favorite time of the year for football loyalists will soon be here. And with it, a slew of teams competing for national championships, star players eager to add their names to a growing list of Heisman trophy winners, and potential paradigm-shifting conference alignment.

Penn State vs. Purdue
Penn State finished 2021 7-6 after climbing as high as fourth in the national polls, a spot which they were forced to give up after losing to then-number-three Iowa. The Nittany Lions then went on to lose six of their final eight games, passing up on an opportune start and dropping into irrelevancy.
PSU, however, had another extremely productive recruiting cycle and will benefit from a fresh start, which they always seem to enjoy. At the same time, they will be without longtime defensive coordinator Brent Pry. Pry accepted the Virginia Tech Hokies’ head coaching position earlier in the year.

Quarterback Aidan O’Connell will be back under center after throwing for 3,712 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions last season and will be charged with the task of leading an upset over the favored Nittany Lions, a job which he should be up for. NC State -9.5 vs. East Carolina
NC State quietly has a tremendous opportunity laying in its path, with offensive turbulence burdening Clemson, Pittsburgh losing its Heisman candidate quarterback and Biletnikoff-winning wideout, and Miami in a rebuilding, but not contending phase.
The Wolfpack has a very talented roster, especially on defense. They also have quarterback Devin Leary, who is coming off an amazing season. He threw for 3,433 yards, 35 touchdowns, and five interceptions.
NCSU is a legitimate contender in the ACC, yet nobody seems to be talking about it.
East Carolina is arguably the sixth-best team in the Carolinas. A mere 9.5-point spread is slightly disrespectful to a much more talented NC State team.
It is the first game of the season. The teams will be rusty. Look for the Wolfpack to slowly assert themselves and walk away with a comfortable win.

Tennessee vs. Pittsburgh
This game will not happen for a bit after the first game of the fall calendar, but it will be each team’s season debut.
