New Jersey was the leader in the fight toward the overturn of PASPA and as a result the legalization of sports gambling. The state has often touted the potential power of sports betting in New Jersey, and the latest facts and figures are helping to back up those claims.
Just last week, David Rebuck, the head of the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, reported impressive numbers on the take for sportsbooks in New Jersey. The Gaming Enforcement’s report was released on October 12 and showed that, in total, NJ sportsbooks accepted wagers that totaled $184 million in the month of September, a significant increase over the $95 million in total wagers at NJ sportsbooks in August.
That number represents a whopping 94 percent increase in month-over-month wager totals, an extremely impressive number. Non-believers of sports betting in New Jersey would say that such an uptick should have been expected. Similar upticks have always been seen in Nevada from August to September, as the change in months naturally brings more wagers with the start of NCAA football and the NFL.
Still, the addition of more sports to bet on isn’t the only reason for the significant uptick in wagers. Proponents of sports betting in New Jersey will point to the desire of more and more people to place sports wagers, and the fact that there are more opportunities and outlets for people in the state to do so now.

That’s because it seems like every day, a new sportsbook is opening in New Jersey, or another New Jersey online casino is launching that offers sports wagering. The majority of the wagering, in fact, was actually conducted through NJ online casinos, with $104 million of the $184 million being conducted online or through mobile wagering.
Probably because of their previous popularity and trustworthiness in the daily fantasy leagues realm, the two leaders in revenue for September were online sportsbooks DraftKings Sportsbook, which operates in conjunction with Resorts Atlantic City, and FanDuel Sportsbook, which operates in conjunction with the Meadowlands race track.
It seems the once-talked-about potential of sports betting in New Jersey, especially when it comes to New Jersey online casinos, is beginning to prove itself true.
