How one Bettor Won Nearly $1M on Ryder Cup Parlay

How one Bettor Won Nearly $1M on Ryder Cup Parlay

The Ryder Cup is a celebration of golf worldwide with the best players from the United States and Europe going head to head. The United States won the tournament, which was expected, but the golfers were not the only winners on the weekend.

Millions of dollars in bets were placed on the tournament throughout the world, and there was almost someone who won $1 million themselves. There have been some major parlay stories in the past few weeks, like the $25 16-team NFL wager.

However, this parlay, which failed by one leg, paled in comparison to this epic Ryder Cup betting slip. One bettor placed a 12-leg parlay for $8 and walked away with just under $1 million. There is debated already occurring that this is the greatest parlay ever placed.

The most miraculous part of the betting slip was that there were two ties at +550 or better included. The odds of this happening are slim to none, so give the bettor credit for choosing the correct wagers.

The Ticket

To win any parlay, luck needs to be on your side. When you need multiple outcomes to occur, it’s hard to win anything. Golf is a great sport to bet because it’s an individual event, but this parlay was still as lucky as you will get in sports betting.

The bettor needed wins from Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau, Daniel Berger, Dustin Johnson, Lee Westwood, Justin Thomas, Rory McIlroy, Ian Poulter, Patrick Cantlay, and Scottie Scheffler.

So What are the Odds for this type of Parlay Bet?

The odds of all this happening is slim to none, but this was not the problematic portion of the parlay. The questionable portion of the parlay was picking ties between Colin Morikawa and Victor Hovland and another from Jordan Spieth and Tommy Fleetwood.  Learn more about Golf Parlay betting with our handy guide.

Spieth and Fleetwood started the 18th hole tied, and they were back and forth throughout the final nine holes. The Americans already won the event, which played into the bettor’s favor because both players conceded gimmie putts. This made the game result in a tie, earning the bettor $966,290.

The other major win on the ticket was the victory from Scheffler at +230. Scheffler beat up Jon Rahm, who was the number one ranked player in the tournament. This was the most significant upset of the tournament.

Thanks to Morikawa sinking a putt on the 17th hole, the Americans earned the win and followed it up with a tie on the 18th hole. This gave the United States the victory on the final day of the tournament. Check out the Ryder Cup results history, with the US dominating over Europe.

Europe had won four of the last five Ryder Cups before the Americans took back the title last Sunday. The person who made a bet did not wish to be identified, and they placed it through FanDuel Sportsbook.

What Did it Take to Win this Parlay?

The bettor who prevailed on this massive parlay got lucky, but they also did a lot of studying. It’s hard to win on golf parlays without putting in pre-match research. Past performances were the key thing that was looked at to win on this betting slip.

Anything can happen in match play, but past performances are indicative of momentum. Another thing the bettor looked at was the performance on the course and in the past Ryder Cups.

This event is not like any other golf tournament throughout the year, so extra research needs to occur to win big on the sport. Despite this, the fact that this wager was successful is nothing short of miraculous.
