Do the Philadelphia Phillies Have Value to Win 2022 NL East?

Do the Philadelphia Phillies Have Value to Win 2022 NL East?

The 2022 MLB season is underway, and the National League East Division has the chance to be one of the best in baseball. The Philadelphia Phillies are right in the middle of things in the NL East, and they are one of the top three betting favorites to win the division.

Future betting odds have been out since before the season began, and those odds will continue to be updated as the season moves along. Fans of the Philadelphia Phillies are wondering if there is value in betting on them to win the NL East Division.

Here are the current betting odds to win the NL East Division:

  • New York Mets -150
  • Atlanta Braves +220
  • Philadelphia Phillies +600
  • Miami Marlins +1800
  • Washington Nationals +15000

The Phillies have struggled a bit to begin the 2022 season, and they have already fallen off the pace a bit. There is obviously still plenty of time to catch up, but Philadelphia will be trying to track down some terrific teams. The Phillies have put together a terrific offensive lineup that is led by Bryce Harper and Nick Castellanos. Throw in J.T. Realmuto and Kyle Schwarber, and that team will be a nightmare for opposing pitchers.

Getting quality starting pitching could be an issue for the Phillies this season, and that will be a situation to monitor as the year moves along.

Mets Have So Much Pitching

The New York Mets jumped out to a 12-5 start through their first 17 games, and that made them the early betting favorites to win the NL East. New York had similar odds as the Phillies in the preseason, but they look like the real deal.

There are still some holes in the everyday lineup, but they have a superstar leading the way in Francisco Lindor. What the Phillies do have is a dominant starting rotation that is now led by Max Scherzer.

Scherzer looks like the clear frontrunner to win the Cy Young Award this season, and the Mets could still be getting Jacob DeGrom back at some point. That 1-2 punch will be tough for teams in the East to deal with.

Braves Will Get Going

The Atlanta Braves have been inconsistent to start the 2022 season, but they are also the defending MLB World Series champions. Atlanta started off slow a season ago as well, but they have the ability to turn things around in a hurry.

The Braves are also going to be getting Ronald Acuna Jr. back to the team at some point in May, and that will provide a massive boost. Atlanta has a pretty powerful lineup as well, and they have enough quality arms on the pitching staff to shut down opponents. Value Yes, But Don’t Bet It

There is clearly some value in taking the Philadelphia Phillies at +600, simply because they should remain in the mix all season long. Crazy things happen over a span of 162 games, and the other top teams in the NL East could end up dealing with injuries or other adversity.

The Phillies are good enough to be a playoff team this season, but they are also a team that has some flaws as well. Some of those flaws could be corrected at the Trade Deadline, and there is also a chance that the offense will simply put up ridiculous numbers.

Taking the Phillies at +600 is a pretty big risk, but it would come with a nice payout. It still seems pretty unlikely that Philadelphia will win the NL East, though, and you might just be donating that money to the sportsbook.
