Arizona Set to Launch Betting in Sport in September, 2021

Arizona set to launch sports betting in sept 2021

BParlay News Flash – Arizona Set to Launch Betting in Sport

The state of Arizona recently approved the legalization of sports betting, and now that industry has an official launch date. The Arizona Department of Gaming announced earlier this week that sports betting would be open for business on September 9.

September 9 is a Thursday, but it is a significant date in the sports betting world. This is the start of the 2021 NFL regular season, and it will allow the state to get off to a strong start in the industry.

The Arizona Cardinals are expected to be one of the driving forces of sports betting in the state, and they will play later that weekend. There are still a number of steps that need to take place before the launch takes place, but the ADG is confident that this will get done.

Governor Doug Ducey officially signed the new gaming compacts and sports betting legislation into law on April 15, and this was the final step needed at the state level. The company was then sent to the U.S. Department of Interior, and it was actually approved much quicker than expected.

Extra Pressure on the ADG

This now puts pressure on the ADG as that group must come up with the first draft of sports betting rules for the state. Those rules are set to be released on June 14, and they will be available for public comment for a one-week period.

The ADG will then look at the public comments and opinions and create a final set of rules that will govern the industry. All of this will be done prior to the September 9 launch, and applications will also be approved by this time.

Online casino gaming and online poker were not included in the new gaming compacts, although they were discussed at one point in time. This is an area that could be revisited by lawmakers and Native American tribes in the future.

What Will Sports Betting Look Like?

The sports betting law in Arizona allows for 20 licenses to be available, and these will be split up between tribal casinos and professional sports teams and organizations. Both online and retail sports betting options will be available, which will give sports bettors plenty of options. Professional teams in Arizona helped support the legalization of sports betting, and those teams will be rewarded with the potential for a huge chunk of the revenue. Sportsbooks will be established at several professional stadiums throughout the state, and the PGA Tour is also involved.

Operators wanting to receive a license in Arizona will have to partner with a tribe or a professional team, and several have already done so. Caesars, DraftKings, and FanDuel have already announced these deals, but more will be on the way.

It is unclear how many online or retail options will be available on September 9, but the industry should be growing in the following months in 2021. Arizona is expected to be a strong sports betting market, as there is not much competition in that part of the United States.
