Baseball betting is back with Spring Training (Even though I highly recommend not betting on exhibition games)! MLB betting is my favorite time of the year because there is a loaded slate of games every day from April through October.

During the heart of baseball season, no other sports are running unless you want to bet on the G-League, so I recommend you get good at betting the bases. Baseball betting may seem easy, but this is not the case.

You need to be careful and stay committed for 162 games to win betting on MLB. This is easier said than done, but there are ways to set yourself up for success.

Here are some ways to have a profitable baseball betting season.

Avoid the Heavy MLB Favorites (As Single Bets)

I am a bettor that wakes up every day and parlays the entire MLB slate. I sprinkle a few bucks on it, and if I hit it once over the season, I make my money back and then some. However, this is just something I do for fun.

I will use heavy favorites in these bets because there is value in grouping the wagers. Although, when I place single bets, I look to take advantage of plus-money underdogs. In baseball, anything can happen.

The Baltimore Orioles are one of the worst teams in baseball, and they will win 50 games this season. Nearly every one of their wins will come when they are underdogs, so you must pick your shots on the dogs because of the value.

On the flip side, the Los Angeles Dodgers, one of the best teams in baseball, will lose 60 games this MLB season and be favored in nearly every game. If you hammer a heavy favorite, you are going to get burnt, and it will take more wins to get your losses back.

An underdog at +120 to +150 is so much better than a favorite at -200 in baseball. In single bets, fade the favorites and hammer the dogs in the right spot.

The Best Dogs are in their Own Division

The best underdogs to wager are when they face teams within their division. Divisional opponents face each other 19 times per season, so dogs have lots of chances to win. The more time a team faces one another, they become familiar with their foes.

This leads to more runs and hits. The dogs should be better by the 19th game than the first, so keep the dogs in mind when betting. If you want to learn more check out the BParlay.com MLB Parlay guide.

MLB Umpires Matter

There are some very bad umpires in Major League Baseball, and it’s not even funny. Umpires make a difference in games, especially when they are behind the plate. I totally understand wanting to bet a game, but sometimes you need to hold back, especially with Angel Hernandez behind the dish.

It’s going to lead to many issues and additional stress when betting. Do yourself a favor and fade the umpires that do not know a ball from a strike. Taking factors like this into account teaches you how to have a profitable season in the MLB with betting options.

Line Shopping is Critical

When looking at games to bet, it’s best to line shop to find the best value. One sportsbook may have a money line for +130, whereas another has +140. A $100 wager on the latter would win ten extra dollars, so it’s worth finding the best value.

Manage Your Bankroll

The length of baseball season forces you to be disciplined when hammering bets. There are 18 weeks of NFL regular-season games, but there is baseball every day for the spring, summer, and fall.

If you go all-in on the wrong bet or get lenient with your spending, it will hurt you down the stretch. Once you set your bankroll, stick with it, and you will be just fine. It will help your profit and stay positive throughout the year.
